G1 Has Turn by Turn

This news isn't news in that it dates back at least a month, but I just got to try Google Maps turn by turn directions on the G1. Some newer Android phones have had this since 2.0 came out, but us old G1 users don't have Android 2.0.

The turn by turn directions work just like a Tom Tom or Garmen unit. I was very happy to see that if you went off the rout, it immediately began to re-route you another direction. This is a great feature if you run into road construction or heavy traffic and make a different turn. The voice lives up to the name Android, but I am sure it will improve with time. I give a 5 star rating. Google just saved me $200 on a GPS device!

Now I need to get one of those suction cup holders...

I just installed PDA Net on my phone (G1, Android based) and Netbook. It is fantastically easy! Now, anywhere I go I can plug my phone into my netbook via a regular USB cable and with one click on my netbook dashboard and one click on the G1 I am surfing the web and checking email anywhere. And it's FREE!!!!

It's not just for Android. They have iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile versions. Check them out at http://www.junefabrics.com/index.php
